The Price of Silence

It is wrong to stay quiet when you see someone being bullied. It is hard to stand up to a bully - especially if the bully is one of the school leaders. Some people worry that if they speak up, they will be the next person to be the target of the bully. But, when one person speaks out against a bully, it empowers others to do the same thing.

How did you feel at first when everyone was circling around the victim and shouting? What was your reaction when the first student came forward? Have you ever been in a position where you got to stand up for someone else? How did it make you feel?

  2. I think that when the kids were circling around them, the kid was scared and if i were him i would not want someone to put me in this position. i think he felt confident when the other kids stood up for him.

  3. At first, I thought to myself,"Oh great. Another anti-bullying video."
It was a familiar, stereo-typical sight when all the kids crowd around the victim shouting,"Fight! Fight! Fight!" It was the kind of sight you'd see in movies, the victim is awkward and doesn't want to fight, people stand by watching, and the bully taunts the victim.
It was inspiring though when the people stepped forward and I really liked the quote from Albert Einstein. I think no one wants to stand up to a school leader because they're afraid that no one will like them anymore, no one will want to be their friend. My sister was getting cyber-bullied by one of her friend's cousins and I stood up for her. Soon, everyone else was standing up for her and the bullying stopped.
This video really proves that when one person stands up for someone else, everyone else will too.

  4. The thought of the kid being bullied made me disappointed and upset. Everyone knows that we are the same underneath our skin, and should not be treated poorly. If you need to let out some anger, dont do it on people, do it on a punching bag, or GET HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Though, I have been in that situation but lukly, I was with friends so we stuck up for each other.

  5. I think that the kids who stood up for the person who was being bullied were very brave. The video taught you about standing up for someone who is being bullied. If I was ever put into a position like they were, I would stand up for them. If i was being bullied, I know for sure that I would want someone else to stand up for me,too!

  6. At first when everybody starting circling and chanting "fight fight fight fight" I felt like it was unrealistic because i have never seen this situation. But when the first student stepped forward I felt a jolt of energy like I wanted to step into the video and stand up to that bully myself. That is my opinion on this video. I actually have stood up to a bully for my friend in first grade all though it was along time ago I still remember it. It made me feel great.

  8. I didnt ubderstand why the kids didnt help in the first place. Well later is better than never. I think the bully was a total jerk. As for his friends they dont want for the bully to bully them. A bully has no real friends. The kids that helped him were not chanting "FIGHT" like other kids. I never been in a situation that I need to help someone!!

  9. I felt that when everyone did the right thing when they stood up for that kid. They showed the bully a lesson. When the first kid came forward it made me feel crumbly inside. The one kid showed everyone that we should stand up for this kid. So they all joined forces and told that bully a lesson. My friend was getting beat up by a big bully and I told him to stop and he listened to me . My friend thanks me every day. It made me fell very warm like a nice bowl of juicy jumbiliah. This is my awesome comment. thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. I think that video was an example to encourage many kids to stand up for eachother. I also think bullying is the wrong thing to do. You should never let bullying get to you.

  14. When I first watched this video, I felt bad for the person in the situation. I felt scared and worried. The bully was egging the victim on like he wanted to start a fight to act all cool. To me, someone that is cool is someone who is nice to others. The victim is so scared that he is going to get hurt, and other people realized it. The kids that knew he was scared stood up to the bully and helped their friend. To me, that is true friendship. Finally the bully walked away, and if I was the victim, I would feel proud.

  16. It's horrible how people treat eachother and just want to fight and hurt others because they are insecure. I hate how people don't do anything. If people take a stand they can help the person from maybe even commiting suicide. Everyone deserves a friend.

  17. it was great that all of those ended up sticking up for the one victim. they did the right thing by not being bystanders and stood up for him. ive seen victims being bullied, this situation is unrealistic most of the time. almost everone is always a bystander. which isnt good but that should be changed!!!

  18. I think that this video was a great way to show that we need to stand up for people who have trouble sticking up for themselves in this kind of situation. I'm glad that that boy took charge and went up to the boy being bullied and stood up for him, he made it possible that he wouldn't get hurt, and he also got other kids to help him fight for himself, and get the other kids to stop calling out "Fight!"

  19. I dont understand why everyone was just standing there acting like there was nothing going on. If you were in the situation you would want someone to stand up for you. I feel like this happens everywhere all the time and the reason that these kids get bullied is because no one helps or stands up for them, its not fair.

  20. I think the fact that no one stood up for him sooner is really upsetting. How could they stand there and do nothing? How could some kids encourage the fighting? It is really sad that they didn't even bother to think about his feelings. And I think that even though in the end 4 kids did stand up for him, their reaction took too long, and something bad could've already happened. I hope this inspires a lot of people to stand up for victims.

  21. It's harder to stand up for someone than it looks, but it's all based on fear and if you let it get to you, bullying will never end. This video showed how one person can make a difference by standing up.

  22. There is no reason for the kid to be picked on and the fact that it took a kid so long to stand up for the victom is a little to long and wrong. I thought a fight would start and the kid would get hurt. I didn't understand how some of the other kids could encourage fighting between the two students. It's important not to be a bystander.
