Jackie Robinson - A True Hero

On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson became the first African-American to play in the major leagues, for the Brooklyn Dodgers. From the very beginning, it was difficult for Jackie. Some of his own teammates did not want him and began a petition to stop him from playing with them. People in the crowds jeered at him and even threatened his family. While traveling, he had to stay in separate motels. One day, while fans were yelling rude remarks to Jackie, the team captain, Pee Wee Reese, walked out onto the field and put his arm around Jackie. Despite all these adversities, Jackie Robinson held his head high and continued to play the game to the best of his ability.

How do you think Jackie Robinson felt when he had to play baseball with people yelling at him and knowing that even some of his own teammates didn't want to play with him? Can you think of a time in your life when you had to face a difficult task and you persevered? How did it make you feel?

  1. I believe that Jackie felt like the entire world was against him at the time, but he truly diplayed a tremendous amount of courage on the field. I felt exactly like Jackie when I moved here. I felt like I didn't belong and out of sorts, but I persevered, just like Jackie Robinson.

  6. I think that it's amazing how Jackie Robinson kept his dignity like that I propably wouldn't even go out there. It was pretty unfair how people treated him even if that was what the time was like I guess all you can say is that humanity is messed up.

  7. I think as probobly throughout history, white people have been more advanced in everything. From the usage of coal in England, to roman architexture, to the creation of the most orginized religion in the face of the Earth. We have also became the most ignorant throughout history, from the Crusades of inocient deaths of jews and muslims thoughout southeastern Europe which faled because of corruption and greed. As well as a more current event of the "purification" of our societies. Somehow, the caucasion race thinks he knows whats best for a race, a country, the world! Also, thoughout history the black race has advanced as rapidly, with large golden temples of wealth and irigation in the saharah, to one of the most advanced systems of currency, energy, mathematics, technology, agriculture, ect. Do you no when European explorers first found the ruins to one of the most marvolece civilations to pave the way to society ever since the Mesopotaminons, the Egyptions, debates broke out of what the civilizations came form, for they couldn't believe they were from African decent, so they argued of middle-eastern desentage! This stupidity of the white race destroys all knowledge we can accumulate of history, or of friendship, for you can only judge someones morales from how they treat their lowers, not their equals. And with this I leave you with need of knowledge, not for the truth, but for the lies you've been blinded with throughout our anciectory as the caucasion race.
